The Bourne
From Historical Hastings
Construction of The Bourne was planned concurrently with the clearances of slum properties not only in the but around the wider Hastings area. At the early planning stage, there were two proposals; the first being a widening of the High Street and the second that of a completely new road between the High Street and All Saints Street[1] Baines relates that a gold stater dating to the first century before Christ and probably used by two British tribes - the Regni and Atrebates was found here.[2]
