Until approximately 1938, Battle Road did not have much in the way of development beyond what is now the cross-roads with Blackman Avenue. After this date, it was extended to join The Ridge West and turn towards Battle. Although most of the properties on the date to the late 19th century, many of the narrow streets between Battle Road and Hollington Old Lane saw dramatic change during the development of Blackman Avenue and surrounding housing, becoming either twittens or cut-throughs, although a few still retain their original names - Pitcherville Terrace being the largest. The remainder (Pitcher Road, Lower Church Road, Parkfield Road and Alberta Road) were lost with the development of new housing in the 1970s.
