Visits of Napoleon
From Historical Hastings
Napoleon III, or Prince Louis Phillipe to give him his full name, stayed in Hastings on two occasions. The first was under an alias - that of 'Colonel Elliot' was between the 18th and 31st of March, 1840. He and his family stayed at Pelham Cottage in Pelham Place[1].
The subsequent visit was a decade later, between the 22nd of May and 5th of June 1850, when he and his family, after arriving at West Marina Railway Station, the party was feted by a parade leading to the Royal Victoria Hotel then 65 Marina, from where he went on to Scotland, his wife staying in the town for a further two months, leaving on the 16th of August[2]
