One of the Eversfield family, Charles held a large property portfolio including the following properties which were put up for auction on the 24th of April 1875 in the estate sale of a builder, John Kenwood (1823-1868)[1] who had died in Wadhurst on the 22nd of November 1868, Charles retaining the freehold until his death in 1886 at which time the estate passed to his nephew Edward Bethune, the daughter of his sister Isabella and Charles Bethune;
