Maze Hill

From Historical Hastings
Maze Hill

A pumping house was erected in at Newgate Reservoir to meet demand for in 1892, this was due to the hilly nature of the site and the fact that to obtain sufficient water pressure from the existing Halton Reservoirs would involve opening of some 28 valves and pumping would have to take place 45 minutes from this supply to meet a surge in demand, for example, a fire[1]
