Holmesdale Gardens
Prior to much of the west side of the road being incorporated into various parts of the Royal East Sussex Hospital during the 1930s, Holmesdale Gardens was full of Private Schools in the late nineteenth century. One called Braybrooke was located at 12-13 Holmesdale Gardens.
A dance and deportmant school was at Riseholme (No 18); this became a school for ‘Preparatory Instruction for the Children of Gentlemen’ briefly in 1885.
Miss Williams ran a preparatory school at number 28 and another school called Arnold House was located at 32 Holmesdale Gardens. Finally, Cornwallis High School was at 41 & 42 Holmesdale Gardens
