Flooding

Since the completion of the Priory Stream culvert and subsequent construction of buildings on the land above, the lower portions of the town centre, particularly Station Road, South Terrace and the Priory Meadow Shopping Centre have suffered floods occurring when a high tide combined with heavy rainfall. In addition a number of other watercourses throughout the town have been culverted and large areas of land that previously functioned as soak-aways have been developed leading to flooding events in other areas of the town.
