Cooper's Library
From Historical Hastings
This library offering foreign language[1] publications was situated at the east end of Marine Parade and on West Street[2] The library was taken over from P. M. Powell (-1850) after Mr Powell became bankrupt[3] by Mr. Allwork, then by Mr. G. Curling Hope, and lastly by Mr. Joseph S. Cooper successively[4][5]. The final proprietor, Mr. Cooper retired to Warrior Square where he constructed numbers 18-24 in conjunction with a local builder[5].
