Located adjacent to the Denmark Place and Harold Place junction, these cottages constructed circa 1866[1] as lodging-houses[2] were demolished during an air raid in WW2.
In late 1902, there is record of the conversion of the ground floor of number 1 into a shop[3], this being followed by number 2 also putting in a shop front two years later, becoming Newport's Fruit and Vegetable Stores[4][5]. A valuation of number 2 at £1450 was determined in 1903 for the purposes of obtaining a loan of £1200 for William Cooper to purchase the premises from the trustees of the late Mrs. Thornton[6].
Following the loss of the houses due to enemy action in WW2, plans were submitted in 1955 to build flats on the site of number 2[7]
