The earliest buildings in Castle Street are No's 3, 5, 6 & 8 which all date to the 1820's/30's[1].
The east end of Castle Street was completely redeveloped during the 1960s with almost all of the buildings on the southern side after what is now Sports Direct being demolished and the road widened. The road was largely pedestrianised in 1989.
