Adelaide Lodge of Oddfellows
The Adelaide Lodge of Oddfellows was a philanthropic society which met at the Warrior's Gate Inn. T. B. Brett was the secretary of this branch of the society in 1848 , and the president Mr. Peter Pagden (of the White Rock Brewery), the Lodge being founded in 1839
In 1928, irregularities were discovered in the accounts of the society. These were due to theft by the forgery of cheques to the value of £53 8s. 6d. by the Secretary of the society - Douglas Griffiths. He was sentenced to twelve months imprisonment with hard labour at the Sussex Assizes during December of the same year.
