Winnie Cossum was a fairly well known benefactor to the town who lived near the top end of the High Street; the path at the rear garden of her property leading to Croft Road (Love Lane) being known for a period following her death in 1834 as "Winnie Cossum's Walk"[1]. Winnie was a spinster and left her estate to her niece Sarah Milward and nephew George Soper[2]. Winifred is buried in St. Andrew's Churchyard, Fairlight[3].
