Plaza Cinema
From Historical Hastings
This cinema was almost completely destroyed in an air raid on the 30 September 1940[1]. Whilst people were watching an air battle overhead, a large HE bomb skipped off the roof of the cinema and exploded in mid air. 14 people were killed, 12 seriously wounded and 23 slightly wounded. Whilst repairs were undertaken following the war, the premises later were fully occupied by W. H. Smiths stationers, then becoming a Yates public house following the relocation of Smiths to Priory Meadow Shopping Centre.
