Born to the newspaper editor and librarian James Dorman and his wife in 1864, Herbert went on to become Choirmaster and Organist at All Saints Church around 1884; Mr. Dorman also gave organ, piano and harmony lessons from his home at 9 Berne Terrace, Githa Road[1]. He married Ethel Dollond in 1891, the couple having two children in Hastings.
Dorman also ran a pianoforte shop in Grand Parade[2].
By 1896, he had moved to East Preston where he had two further children, then moving to Arundel where he died in 1935[3].
