Originally from Hailsham, Henry Osborne, started out life as a printer and compositor, after assisting his mother in running a store described as 'Berlin and Fancy Repository'[1] at 55 George Street and father's printing business in Burdett Place, he became an insurance agent[2] and took over the management of his father's business[3] - perhaps best known today by means of the various guide books published under his name.
Chairman of the St. Clements' Lower District of the Hastings Liberal Association and described as one of the mainstays of the Ore, Clive Vale and Halton Liberal Clubs, he was, at the time of his demise the Hon. Treasurer of the aforementioned association. He was a trustee of the Court Cinque Ports of the Ancient Order of Foresters and Director of the Rape of Hastings Permanent Building Society. Whilst resident at Holmesdale in Ashburnham Road, he came down with kidney disease to which he succumbed after a short but painful illness[3].
