Gas Explosion 1963

On the 11th of July 1963, a number of gas explosions shook the western end of George Street and East Parade. Three hundred people needed to be evacuated and there were 35 persons injured. Numbers 12, 13 were severely damaged, and 14 East Parade sustained minor damage; requiring the frontage to be replaced. No's 12 & 13 were later demolished and remained a vacant lot until around 2010 when 'Seahouses' was built[1].
