Filsham Waterworks

From Historical Hastings

Opening in 1883, this waterworks comprised a 50,000 gallon covered reservoir with the roof supported by 135 arches, filter beds and a pumping station obtaining water from a fissure in the sandstone strata beneath and to the south of Filsham Farm on land owned by the Brisco family. The works were originally designed by Edward Easton and the reservoir constructed by Peter Jenkins who had constructed a number of similar reservoirs around the Borough.[1] As part of the opening celebrations, a banquet was held in one of the underground reservoir tanks[2]

A new water treatment plant[3] and pump house[4] were erected in 1976 and 1977 respectively.
