Clyde Road was laid out in around 1872 between Barham House and Gensing Gardens to provide a link between London Road and Charles Road/Pevensey Road.[1]
In 1872, the Rev. Thomas Dixon advertised his services in providing preparation for University, Army and Civil Service Examinations, giving an address of 2 Barham Terrace in Clyde Road - the name Barham Terrace possibly pre-dating the adoption of the road, named after Barham House which is on the junction with London Road, and referring to one of the two sets of terraced houses on the northern side of the road[2] (numbers 1-10 and 11-15).
