Cholera
From Historical Hastings
During the 19th century, there were a number of Cholera outbreaks that affected the country both at a national level and local.
Local outbreaks were recorded in the following years:-
Year | Number of recorded deaths in Brett | |
---|---|---|
1832-1834 | : | 5 listed by name[1] |
1849-1852 | : | 65 (although only 40 recorded by registrar)[2] The Rock Fair was cancelled in 1852 due to Cholera outbreaks[3] |
There was a 'scare' in 1855, but this was based upon rumour and had no origin in fact[4]
