Joseph Carswell (1758-1830)

A miller and baker, like the rest of his family; his windmill which he inherited from his mother[1] known as the Priory Mill, on Cuckoo Hill (White Rock) was blown down in a severe storm on the 19th of February 1808.[2]. Carswell was known to have lived at 1 George Street, known as Town House[3] and demolished the premises to build a larger building circa 1810[4].
