Horse Omnibus

In the days of horse-drawn transport, a number of private companies provided an omnibus service around the town. One of the companies, the Hastings Omnibus Company[1], started circa 1878 offering routes along the seafront from the Fishmarket to Marina with a planned service for the St Andrews (current day town centre) district opening soon after the initial offering. Fares for the journey along the seafront were to be 6d with a season ticket available for £1 1s.[2]. There is record of an omnibus service run between Hastings Railway Station and Northiam timetabled to meet the London trains by Sivyer Rootes in 1872[3]
