Wreck of SS Clara
From Historical Hastings
The SS Clara was damaged in a collision with the SS Elorrio[1] near to the Royal Sovereign Light Tower in June 1906. Having been taken in tow by a tug (presumably to Dover) and the crew taken off, the decks became awash leading to the vessel being run aground near Cliff End, Fairlight leaving the bridge and superstructure visible above the water-line. A dive report from 2009 reports that the two boilers are still in-situ and the engine lies a short distance away. Some silver spoons were recovered on another dive[2]
