The Towers Girls School

From Historical Hastings

Following a relocation from Battle during April of 1920[1], The Towers Girls School was located in The Croft between 1920 and 1936, with Mrs. E. Jutson as the principal[2]. The school later re-named itself to become the Somerville Towers School[3].

The school received an upgrade in the form of a gymnasium that featured sun-lamps, open air education space and all requisite exercise equipment courtesy of a donation by an ex-pupil, Miss Farron. The foundation stone for the new facility was laid on the 17th of November 1929 by Miss Farron following a dedication service led by the Rev. H. B. Cole[4]. This facility featured in almost all of the school's advertising through to the mid-1930s.
