St. Peters Church, Baldslow

An Iron Chaplery or Tin Tabernacle, built on his land by the owner of Beaulieu (later the site of Hydneye House, Maplehurst and Helenswood schools) , in 1869. A single bell, approx. 12” in diameter, hung in a ‘B’ frame and chimed by a lever was held in a bell cote on the west end.
Originally in the parish of St Mary in the Castle, it came within the enlarged parish of St John the Evangelist, Hollington, in 1902. The church closed in 1979, being demolished during road-widening at that time. The parish registers from 1870 onwards are available at ESRO
