Paddle Steamer
From Historical Hastings
There have been a number of paddle steamers offering pleasure cruises from Hastings Pier over the years. The Conqueror was launched in 1890 and offered trips to Eastbourne, the Royal Sovereign lightship and going as far afield as Calais on day trips[1]. Perhaps one of the better-known steamers today is the Waverley, which after laying derelict for a period was purchased by the current owners for £1.00 and restored to sea-going condition. The vessel made a stop at Shoreham Harbour in September 2023 for a quickly sold-out cruise around the Isle of Wight.
