Located at 14 Claremont, this building was originally constructed to a design by Vernon for Thomas Brassey and was originally intended to form an integral adjunct of the adjacent Brassey Institute[1]. Becoming the offices of the Hastings & St Leonards Observer, it later housed some of the printing presses utilised by the paper until the newspaper relocated to the outskirts of town. Subsequently the building was utilised as a retail shop during the late 1980s, with a fitness centre (Pinks Gym)[2] on the upper floors; a laser mase was added in the early 2000s[3]. The building then became a restaurant around 2005, then in around 2014, an arts venue[4].Grade II Listed (Historic England listing 1353250)
In spite of the multitude of usages in the building's latter life, the facade is largely unchanged from its as-built condition.
