Hastings Society for the help of Poor Married Women in Confinement
From Historical Hastings
This society, founded in 1914 was set up to provide aid and information to pregnant women. By 1924, a report of the annual general meeting held at Old Hastings House in May of that year revealed that the number of subscribers to the charity had fallen and the accounts were showing a balance of £39 7s., which together with interest due on investments gave them a working capital of £55 5s. There had been 21 mothers and infants assisted in the previous year and 14 cases on the year to date[1].
