The Hastings Castle was a beer-house located at 12 Wellington Terrace. The premises had their licensing opposed at a hearing during 1905, when it was felt that the town had too many licensed premises - apparently one per every 370 persons. This was under the Licensing Act of 1903 - the pub being declared redundant and the sum of £500 being paid in compensation[1]. In addition, these premises appeared to have a higher than normal turnover of licensees[2]
