Emma was born in Germany to John Taylor and Francis Larkins Mather. Following the death of her father in 1844, by 1851 she was listed as resident in Canterbury[1], moving to Hastings between then and the time of the 1861 census[2] with her aunt, Louisa Mather. At this time, she was shown as being resident at 65 Eversfield Place. She was joined by her mother at the same address by 1871[3].
She married William Crake on the 30th of October 1880 at a church in Hove.
