Dennies Nightclub

Originally planned to open around 1970[1], this club, was also known as 'Rennies'. Located in the basement of the Robertson Street Church Institute (latterly the Penguin Snooker Club) in Priory Street, this nightclub reopened in December 1976 under the management of Don Smith, a Formula Ford driver who also owned the Orion, Penguin Snooker Club above and Bridge Garage. The club survived until the building's clearance for the new town square.

As-planned layout circa 1970

The building was demolished in order a 'town square' development could take place on the land between Havelock Road and Priory Street.
