Flooding[edit]
In December 1993, some fifty luxury caravans were flooded when the Haven River burst its banks, resulting in the caravans being flooded with muddy water up to four feet deep. The cost of the damage was estimated to be over £½ million. General Manager Mike John was quoted in the Hastings & St. Leonards Observer as saying "It was a helpless situation ... an act of God". The river started to flood the lower pasture at around 2pm on the 20th of December; this coinciding with a high tide resulting in floodwater mixing with sewerage. The park previously suffered flooding in 1990. At the time of the newspaper report, there were nine hundred caravans on the site[1]
