Clegg Street ran parallel to Brook Street forming part of the gasworks site now occupied by Morrisons Supermarket. Access to the road was via the vacant lot next to 1 Brook Street. For a period in the 1950s, F. R. Bones & Son Ltd had a timber store, saw rooms and retail outlet at the distant end of this road.
