Boykett Breeds (1735-1784)

From Historical Hastings

Boykett Breeds
Born1735 Rye
Died1784 Hastings
Spouse(s)Susannah Gosby (c1735-)

Boykett would appear to have changed the spelling of his surname from Breads to Breeds at some point. Marrying Susannah Gosby in London when he was aged under 17.

Moving from Rye to Hastings about 1760, he continued his family tradition of seafaring and set up the town's first ship-building yard - this existing in solitude until around 1801[1]

There would appear to have been no children from his marriage to Susannah nor her death, but he was recorded as being a widower by 1762. On the 9th of June that year, he married Sara Wilkes from Battle. He was recorded as being both a merchant and mariner[2]
