Template:Set ahn/doc

Purpose: sets the Property:Ahnentafel to the current article plus a merge of the Ahnentafel trees of the subject's two parents.

Notes on flow:

1. set own ahn value( #1 ) to pagename
2. grab the parents' ahnan string if any and convert to this generation.

• Note that this ahnan string is the same for all children of these two parents.

Special usage warning Apostrophes in names- for articles with apostrophes in names, special handling is required. Pagenames in the Ahnentafel table will refer to the article using a left quote ‘ instead of an apostrophe '. A #REDIRECT needs to be made to the correct article. For instance #REDIRECT [[Baudoin d'Avesnes (1219-1289)]] was added to the article name with the left quote Baudoin d‘Avesnes (1219-1289). All queries will work properly after that since redirects are regarded as query synonyms.

A bulk prophylactic operation could be conducted. Using AWB on a text file list derived from members of surname categories with apostrophes in the names, the text file has names with left quote in the name in place of apostrophe. AWB creates new articles, adding the following wikitext to each:

#REDIRECT [[{{subst:#replace:{{subst:PAGENAME}}|‘|'}}]]

Then rerun AWB on the oldest descendants forcing the fix through the ahn and descendants trees.
