The Hastings & St. Leonards Penny Press was founded by Thomas Brett around 1854. It was a broadsheet paper with three columns per page typically. A year later, the publication was retitled the "St. Leonards and Hastings Gazette", remaining in publication for 52 years[1]. Brett frequently utilised pages from this periodical, together with others of the period in his Manuscript Histories.
