From Historical Hastings
(Redirected from Semadenis)

A confectionery chain set up by the Semadeni family. The caves behind the premises, in what is now known as 'Gotham Alley', or basements (it is unclear from archive sources) were utilised as an Air Raid Shelter for 21 persons during World War 2.

During WW1, one of the family members appeared in the Hastings & St Leonards Pictorial Advertiser, complaining that the pay in the French army was less than that in the British[1].
