(Redirected from Blacklands)

Summary

Originally the Blacklands area was rural land owned by the Frewen Family, known as the Blacklands Farm Estate. The land was almost entirely rural and adjoined the Kite’s Nest Farm, Ore Valley Fields and the large wooded area known as St Helen’s Park. The etymology, in part, most likely refers to the colour of the soil in the surrounding fields being darkened by occupation and usage. There was evidence of an iron-working site in the vicinity, possibly giving rise to the name due to the black iron-oxide deposits.[a]
