Welcome to the Historical Hastings Wiki

The Historical Hastings Wiki is intended to be a supporting website to both the Historical Hastings Facebook group linked below and the associated mapping site. Images are mainly from the defunct Richard Pollard website that showed images from Hastings and St Leonards, East Sussex throughout history.

It is now known that many of these images were mis-captioned and taken from other sources without attribution being given to original photographers/copyright holders. A number have been either 'screen captured' or cropped to remove any comments permitting attribution.

New content is being categorised, attributed and added daily. A number of these are as yet, not fully referenced as to source, so if you know any corrections, you are welcome to make them.

Information on the wiki is closely connected with the Facebook Group Historical Hastings.

Tucked in various 'corners' of the Wiki are a number of personal histories and 'pen portraits' of the town as published in The Hastings & St Leonards Observer. A sample piece is the Pen Portrait of Hastings 1889.

All visitors are welcome to add or correct information to pages to hopefully form the definitive history of our town. If uploading, or assisting to categorise the over 1,000 images stored on the wiki, this guide may be useful: Information for indexing images.
